Peter Pan and His Shadow, Fox mousing jump, Yellowstone National Park, 2015. BEST OF SHOW NANPA 2016 SHOWCASE. A Red A Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) performs a spectacular mousing jump. Known as opportunistic and stealthy hunters, research suggests that red foxes use not only their acute sense of hearing to pinpoint the exact location of their prey under the snow, but also that they employ the Earth’s magnetic field as a rangefinder to plot their trajectory. Mid-pounce, their large plumy tails are often employed as a rudder to perfect their aim.

Here, we present a selection of the best nature photographs from NANPA members submitted in 2016.
